♦ Pain and Symptom Management:

Hospice care providers are experts in pain and symptom management. They will work with you to develop a plan to manage your pain and other symptoms so that you can live as comfortably as possible.

♦ Home visits: Our nurses will make weekly home visits to provide you with care. This means that you can stay in the comfort of your own home and receive the care you need.

♦ 24/7 support: Hospice care providers are available 24/7 to provide you with support. This means that you can always get the help you need when you need it.

♦ Emotional and spiritual support: Hospice care providers offer emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families. They can help you and your family cope with the emotional and spiritual challenges of a terminal illness.

♦ Bereavement support: After your loved one passes away; hospice care providers can offer bereavement support to your family/caregivers. This support can help them cope with their grief and loss

♦ Medical Equipment: Under hospice care, Medicare will cover some of the medical equipment you might need. Caring Like Family Hospice will work with your insurance company to get your medical equipment covered. These items are covered under hospice:

  • Full Electric Hospital Bed
  • Bed Rails: (Half, Full, Halo)
  • Different Types of Mattresses:(Low Air Loss, Regular, Alternating Pressure)
  • Full Electric Hoyer Lift & Trapeze
  • Wheelchairs & Accessories: (Standard, Companion, High-Back Reclining, Extra-Wide, Geri-Chair)
  • Different Types of Walkers & Canes
  • Oxygen Concentrator & Accessories: (High Flow or Regular Flow oxygen)
  • Suction Machine/Aspirator
  • Nebulizer/Aerosol Compressor
  • Bedside Commode & Raised Toilet Seat
  • Shower Chair & Transfer Bench
  • Over-the-bed-table
  • G-Tube Pump & Supplies.

♦ Medical Supplies: Caring Like Family Hospice will provide you with some of the much-needed medical supplies. The following incontinence supplies are covered by hospice.

  • Adult Diapers (Presto, Depend)
  • Wipes (Washcloths)
  • Underpads (Chux)
  • Poise Pads
  • Body Wash & Shampoo (Regular & Rinse Free)
  • Face & Body Lotion
  • Incontinence Creams and Sprays (Calmoseptine, Vitamin A&D, Peri-wash..)

♦ Other Supplies:

  • Wound Supplies
  • Catheter Care Supplies
  • Ostomy Supplies
  • PleurX drainage supplies

♦ Medications: Caring Like Family Hospice will provide you with all the medications you need to manage your pain and other symptoms. We will also work with your insurance company to get your medications covered. All the medication you need, prescription and non-prescription will be delivered to your home. The following mediation will be covered by hospice:

♦ A kit with Hospice Comfort Medication (Emergency Medication) for the following symptoms:

  • Pain: Liquid Morphine                                                                 
  • Anxiety/Restlessness/Agitation: Liquid Lorazepam, 
  • Excessive Secretions: Levsin                                                                                     
  • Constipation: Bisacodyl suppositories,
  • Fever/Aches/ Mild Pain: Tylenol Suppositories,
  • Nausea & Vomiting: Zofran ODT,
  • SOB/Congestion/Respiratory Distress: Ipratropium/ Albuterol (DuoNeb) 
  • Oxygen though not in a Kit is considered to be an  as-needed emergency medication for Shortness of Breath/Congestion/Respiratory Distress or continuous for patients who are oxygen-dependent                   

♦ Nutritional Shakes:

  • Protein & Meal Replacement Drinks
  • Ensure, Boost, Glucerna,
  • TwoCal -HN.
  • G-Tube Formula (Animal or Plan Based)

♦ Thickening Powder:  For Patients with Swallowing Issues.

♦ Oral and Topical Antibiotics: For UTIs, Skin & Wound Infections, Other bacterial infections,

  • Hospice only covers drugs that are related to the hospice terminal diagnosis.
  • The rest of the medication will be billed to the patient’s insurance; the beneficiary will be responsible for any co-pays
  • The patient is financially responsible for all vitamins and supplements (these are covered by neither hospice nor insurance).
